About The Position

Inspector, Contracted Services will inspect contracted and maintenance work to ensure compliance with engineering sketches, Division specifications, contract documents and local/national codes in Electric, Gas or Water Distribution areas or Street Repair. Electric - inspect Electric Distribution system, transmission system, tree-trimming, pole reinforcement/treatment, streetlights, private outdoor lighting and facilities location. Gas - inspect gas leak surveys and the installation of polyethylene/steel gas mains and PVC electric conduit. Water - inspect the installation of water mains and associated devices. Street Repair - inspect the installation of concrete/asphalt.

Requirements

  • A valid driver's license from state of residence is required.
  • High School Diploma/General Education Development (GED) is required.
  • 2 - 4 years journeyman level experience and knowledge of the Electric Distribution System or right-of-way line clearance inspection, depending on department needs is required.
  • Must successfully complete NIMS training within 1 year of entering job.
  • Must have an occupationally significant combination of\: ability to apply concepts and procedures in appraising contracted tree-trimming, pole treatment and line and street light inspection; ability to apply the techniques of Electric Distribution facility inspection; spatial aptitude to visualize three-dimensional forms and relationships in blueprints; ability to apply knowledge of legal binding terminology and documentary regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect contracted work and materials to ensure an adequate quantity and quality of work is achieved; notify appropriate personnel of work deficiencies and safety violations.
  • Assist in coordinating and directing work of contracted crews.
  • Report the status of work in progress and completed work.
  • Investigate customer calls/complaints; take remedial action.
  • Examine and field check engineering sketches to ensure that the contractor is adhering to Division standards; make necessary field changes.
  • Review necessary paperwork such as time sheets, damage claims, work schedules, balance material records with compatible unit records; prepare reports.
  • Approve field revisions to the engineering sketches with the contractor; recheck contracted practices.
  • Keep abreast of Division standards, policies and procedures, local and national codes and construction practices.
  • May determine if Division is justified in trimming, topping or removing certain trees; seek permission to trim trees when contractor has been given refusals.
  • Operate Division vehicle/radio and utilization of computer hardware equipment and software applications.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
