The City of Austin is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Inspector A, B, or C within the Transportation and Public Works Department. This role involves ensuring that all development within the public right-of-way is properly permitted and adheres to approved traffic control plans. Inspectors will work in the field, inspecting work zones for utility, telecommunication, site development, and special events projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and the ability to interpret city codes and traffic control plans.

  • Inspect work zones for compliance with traffic control plans and city codes.
  • Review and interpret schematics and construction plans.
  • Ensure that all development within the public right-of-way is properly permitted.
  • Work with contractors, developers, and the general public to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to inspections and compliance issues.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a related field depending on the inspector level (A, B, or C).
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License required for Inspector C.
  • Building Inspector certifications may be required by the department.
  • Experience and certification in Temporary Traffic Control and flagging.
  • Ability to review complex engineering documents.
  • Experience working with the City Code, TXMUTCD, and Standard Specifications.
  • Excellent written communication skills for report preparation.
  • Availability to work non-standard hours.
