About The Position

The Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the delivery of sample collection services. This role ensures high-quality patient care, efficient workflow, and adherence to all safety and compliance standards. The Team Lead will perform blood collection procedures, train and mentor staff, monitor supply inventory, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to support patient care and the delivery of sample collection services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1 year phlebotomy experience.
  • Strong knowledge of venipuncture techniques, specimen handling, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to maintain composure at all times, creating a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while, multitasking, maintaining attention to detail and a positive attitude.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Valid State of Michigan drivers license
  • BLS/CPR through the American Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) from an accredited organization (e.g., ASCP, NHA) preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise and support to the phlebotomy team.
  • Coordinate daily workflow and assist with the deployment of staffing to ensure timely and efficient patient service.
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for phlebotomy or pre-analytical related issues and escalations.
  • Train, mentor, and provide feedback on phlebotomy/processing staff technical skills, ensuring compliance with best practices as directed.
  • Assist in onboarding new hires and conducting competency assessments.
  • Perform specimen collection following established protocols in accordance with job descriptions Phlebotomist, Phlebotomist Patient Access, and/or Phlebotomist Special Procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with infection control policies.
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, DNV, CAP).
  • Monitor specimen handling, processing, and transportation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Conduct quality control checks and assist in resolving discrepancies or errors.
  • Maintain accurate records of collections, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Manage and monitor supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Assist in implementing new policies, procedures, and technology improvements.
  • Collaborate with laboratory personnel, nursing staff, and physicians to ensure seamless operations.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
