Job Summary: Safely and accurately performs venipunctures, arterial and capillary specimen collections as requested in adults, children and infants. Includes interpretation of physician orders and insuring all requests are accurately and completely processed in the information system. Completes all required compliance processes. Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background. Job Description: Full Time 40hrs. WK with E/3rd Weekend

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED OR Currently in the Phlebotomist Student role and meets the following criteria: 18 years of age/older On track to obtain High School Diploma within 12 months of hire into role. Meets or exceeds all competency requirements of the phlebotomy student role as indicated by the site supervisor and system phlebotomy manager
  • Valid Driver’ License
  • Computer literate
  • Experience required for 3rd shift Phlebotomist.
  • Experience including customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Interaction: Greets patients using the AIDET (PHLEBOT) model; provides instructions and directions to ensure quality experiences.
  • Order Evaluation: Reviews physician orders for specimen type, timing, and handling requirements; organizes draws using work lists.
  • Technology Use: Operates hospital and lab systems, PDA for patient identification, printers, and phones for communication and label management.
  • Communication: Coordinates with physician offices for diagnosis coding and problem-solving; collaborates with pharmacy and care staff for timely medication level and tolerance test collections.
  • Specimen Collection: Safely collects quality samples per lab policies; uses various collection devices; handles body fluids and culture specimens.
  • Work Area Maintenance: Cleans, organizes, and stocks phlebotomy areas, carts, and inpatient units for safety and order.
  • Compliance & Knowledge: Understands reference lab requirements, specialty testing, and lab compliance policies; completes mandatory training.
  • Flexibility: Travels to other healthcare facilities and covers other lab sites as needed.
  • Professional Development: Attends in-services and continuing education; participates in training programs and promotes ICARE principles.
  • Other Duties: Performs additional tasks as assigned.
