About The Position

The pharmacy technician at Sutter Health works under the supervision of staff pharmacists in an outpatient pharmacy setting, ensuring the provision of ethical and patient-oriented pharmaceutical services. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED certificate.
  • PHARMT-Pharmacy Technician certification.
  • One year of professional experience as a pharmacy technician, preferably in an outpatient care setting.
  • Knowledge of procurement, storage, and preparation for dispensing of medications.
  • Understanding of TJC, Title 22, and state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of medical recordkeeping requirements and procedures.
  • Ability to resolve drug distribution system issues.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with unit dosing systems and electronic health records is a plus.
  • Familiarity with medical payment and reimbursement programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide smooth and efficient pharmaceutical care to patients.
  • Promote cost-effective utilization of medications.
  • Attend service counter and telephones, obtaining accurate information for relaying messages.
  • Enter charges and prescriptions completely and accurately into the computer.
  • Prepare and dispense prescriptions as directed by the Pharmacist.
  • Prepare and dispense medications at any station in the pharmacy, following proper procedures.
  • Assist in ordering, receiving, and organizing medications and supplies daily.
  • Post receivings into the computer, including price changes.
  • Return stock to shelf and participate in drug recall procedures.
  • Follow AIDET functions at the counter area, ensuring patient identifiers are checked before transactions.
  • Process deliveries according to instructions.
  • Organize, plan, and prioritize daily workflow within the shift.
  • Self-check all technical duties for accuracy and quality before pharmacist review.
  • Participate in the instruction and supervision of other pharmacy personnel and externs.
  • Engage with nursing, providers, and interdepartmental team members to provide complete services.
  • Participate in training and orientation of new employees.
  • Maintain a current pharmaceutical knowledge base through continuing education programs.
  • Participate in department projects, meetings, and inservices.
  • Assume responsibility for regulatory compliance and accreditation standards.
