About The Position

The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician III at Sutter Health is responsible for performing pharmaceutical procedures related to medication preparation and distribution, ensuring safe and effective medication therapy. This role includes advanced medication management functions, adherence to regulatory requirements, and the ability to train lower-level technicians. The technician will work collaboratively with healthcare providers to support patient care based on diagnoses, while also managing narcotic utilization and procurement strategies.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program or meet Board of Pharmacy requirements for registration.
  • Advanced training in core inpatient pharmacy technician accountabilities such as 340B program, sterile compounding certification, or hazardous drug compounding course.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician (PHRMTECHR) or Certified Pharmacy Technician (PHARMC) or Pharmacy Technician (PHARMT).
  • 4 years of recent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, pharmaceutical names, calculations, and laws and regulations.
  • Understanding of different pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery procedures.
  • Ability to identify and employ pharmaceutical and medical terms commonly used in prescribing and dispensing medications.
  • Basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and EPIC systems.
  • Familiarity with hazardous drug management and USP 800 guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pharmaceutical procedures for medication preparation and distribution.
  • Conduct final medication checks under the technician-check-technician program approved by the California Board of Pharmacy.
  • Manage second-level narcotics functions and perform statistical analysis of narcotic utilization.
  • Capture medication utilization data and optimize procurement strategies while meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Provide pharmaceutical support to the patient's plan of care based on diagnosis in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety.
  • Train lower-level technicians in all tasks performed.
