About The Position

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Certification.
  • State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician License

Nice To Haves

  • College courses desirable but not required.
  • Two or more year’s pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Procures and distributes drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols, and within specified timeframe.
  • Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures and protocols and within specific timeframe.
  • Contributes to the effective operation of the department.
  • Daily Automation duties as assigned.
  • Manages Pyxis MedStation.
  • Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department.
  • Participates in improvement activities that affect the pharmacy inventory and cost.
  • Maintains competency required for current job title/position.
  • Prepares intravenous sterile preparations and chemotherapy once appropriately trained.
  • Performs patient interviews face-to-face or by phone to obtain an accurate medication history to aid in the Admission Medication Reconciliation Process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
  • Ability to set priorities and solve problems.
  • Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
  • Ability to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, psychiatric, obstetric, oncology, chemically dependent, rehabilitation and skilled-nursing patients.
