The Pharmacy Intern supports pharmacy operations while completing training in an accredited school of pharmacy. This role allows interns to gain hands‑on experience by performing both technical pharmacy tasks and pharmacist duties, all under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The Pharmacy Intern plays an important role in patient safety, medication preparation, and clinical support, while developing professional skills throughout the internship. Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern may: Perform technical pharmacy tasks similar to: Unit Dose Technician duties IV Admixture Technician duties Assist with pharmacist responsibilities, including: Reviewing and screening physician medication orders Entering medication orders into the computer system Performing complex IV room tasks Complete pharmacy‑related calculations and review medication compatibilities Provide patient education when appropriate, such as: Coumadin teaching Discharge medication counseling Conduct drug information searches Assist with drug use evaluations and therapeutic or P&T‑related drug reviews Perform a variety of pharmacy duties as competencies are achieved throughout the internship Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the patient populations served.
