About The Position

The Inpatient Hospice Registered Nurse (RN) Night Shift plays a critical role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses during the overnight hours. This position is responsible for managing and coordinating nursing care plans that prioritize comfort, symptom management, and emotional support for patients and their families. The RN will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care transitions and adherence to hospice care standards. Providing vigilant monitoring and timely interventions during the night shift is essential to maintaining patient safety and dignity. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to enhancing the quality of life for patients in their final stages by delivering expert clinical care and empathetic support throughout the night.

Requirements

  • Current and valid WI Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience, preferably in hospice, palliative care, or a related healthcare setting.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to work independently during night shifts and make critical decisions in a timely manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to hospice patients during the night shift, including assessment, symptom management, medication administration, and documentation.
  • Monitor patients’ physical and emotional status, promptly identifying and addressing changes in condition or emergent needs.
  • Collaborate with physicians, social workers, chaplains, and other interdisciplinary team members to develop and update individualized care plans.
  • Offer emotional support and education to patients and their families, helping them understand the hospice process and addressing concerns or questions.
  • Ensure compliance with hospice policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Respond to patient and family emergencies during the night, providing appropriate interventions or coordinating additional resources as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff education to promote best practices in hospice nursing care.
