About The Position

Baptist Health is seeking a dedicated individual to accurately code inpatient records for the classification of all diseases, injuries, procedures, and operations using the ICD10CM/PCS coding system. This role ensures compliance with coding rules and regulations as mandated by regulatory agencies such as CMS and OIG. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the team to meet departmental and accounts receivable goals, while also abstracting prescribed data elements from medical records. The estimated pay range for this position is $28.98 - $37.67 per hour, depending on experience.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (Cert, GED, Trn, Exper).
  • AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification required.
  • Required coding certificate must be obtained if not CCS or RHIT certified upon hire within 2 years.
  • For Boca, candidates must have either CCS, CCA, CPC, COC, RHIT, or RHIA certification.
  • Knowledge of encoder system, Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS), DRG/MSDRGs, and National and Local Coverage Determination (NCD and LCD) policies.
  • Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Effective communication skills with coworkers, management staff, and physicians.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in inpatient facility coding.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately code inpatient records using the ICD10CM/PCS coding system.
  • Ensure compliance with coding rules and regulations according to regulatory agencies (CMS, OIG).
  • Work as part of a team to meet departmental and accounts receivable goals.
  • Abstract prescribed data elements from medical records.
