About The Position

The overall responsibility of this position is to establish guidelines for the nursing assistant as part of the nursing team, assisting and providing quality of care to patients of the facility, and offering supportive nursing care to meet individual patient needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical skills that incorporate the patient’s plan of care and provide comfort measures to patients.
  • Assist with admissions, transfers within the facility, and discharge.
  • Assist patients with requests from other services such as dietary.
  • Provide assistance to patients with activities and care as directed by the department manager.
  • Accurately record activities such as intake and output, collection of specimens.
  • Empty Foley drainage bag each shift.
  • Administer enemas, sitz baths, alcohol sponges, and record the results and patient’s response.
  • Prepare and chaperone patients during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Assist with patient procedures and treatments as needed.
  • Apply hot and cold compress treatments.
  • Give skin care and a timed position change to ensure that circulation is not impeded and to prevent pressure sores.
  • Maintain the patient’s privacy and confidentiality.
  • Provide a clean and safe environment.
  • Ensure that proper aseptic technique and infection control measures are followed.
  • Observe and follow policies and procedures set forth by the facility.
  • Transport requisitions or specimens to the appropriate department.
  • Assist personal care such as baths, weighing, linen/bed changes, and feeding the patient if required.
  • Recognize patient care priorities and communicate the patient’s needs to the appropriate staff.
  • Assist in ordering supplies, checking outdates, and verifying changes or charges as directed by the department manager.
  • Perform all other duties as requested or required.
  • Assist patients to the car at discharge.
  • Perform and record Vital Signs on admission and as required.
  • Communicate all patient care needs to nursing staff in a timely manner.
