Position Overview: This position supports the Magna Technology Investments team in sourcing, monitoring, researching, and potentially investing in startup companies shaping the future of mobility and manufacturing. We’re looking for someone who is deeply curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable learning independently. While we offer a structured internship program, your experience will be largely self-driven. You will learn by researching, engaging with founders, and supporting real investment work. This role is based in Michigan, and relocation assistance or housing compensation is not provided. In previous years, interns have successfully joined us from Durham, Pittsburgh, New Haven, and Windsor, Ontario.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in emerging technologies, startups, and the future of mobility/automotive/ manufacturing.
  • Ability to research and learn independently; strong aptitude for synthesizing complex information into clear insights.
  • Highly curious, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Genuine respect for entrepreneurs and enthusiasm for working with early-stage startups.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical (hardware or software) preferred.
  • Junior or Senior university student with a major in engineering; additional experience or coursework in business, finance, economics, product design, or front-end innovation is strongly valued.
  • Candidates pursuing a Master’s in Engineering or an MBA are also welcome to apply.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong professional written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Support full-cycle investment diligence by conducting market sizing, competitive analysis, value-proposition assessments, and business-model evaluations for active deals.
  • Develop strategic insights by researching emerging technologies and trends, drafting thematic briefs, and synthesizing findings into actionable recommendations for the investment roadmap.
  • Contribute to pipeline development by sourcing, screening, and profiling high-potential startups aligned with Magna’s focus areas.
  • Conduct pre-meeting research for startup intro calls, events, or conferences, prepare concise one-page summaries, join meetings, actively listen, and take structured notes.
  • Attend local events and conferences, capture key insights, and prepare post-event reflections or summaries for the team.
