About The Position

At University Hospitals, innovation is driven by a commitment to identifying and advancing breakthrough opportunities in sports medicine and healthcare. The Innovation Analyst, Investment & Programming, will play a key role in supporting the UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center's investment activities and programming. This entry-level position is designed for early-career professionals eager to gain hands-on experience in venture diligence, portfolio management, and program operations. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of innovation, investment, and sports medicine, collaborating across UH Ventures and the UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center to accelerate the adoption of high-impact solutions. The analyst will develop foundational skills in investment analysis, stakeholder engagement, and program management, positioning them for future growth in healthcare innovation and venture investing. Reporting to UH Ventures, and working closely with both the Director of Deal Flow & Investment and the Drusinksy Sports Medicine Institute (DSMI) Operations Director, the analyst will assist with investment pipeline management, data room diligence, investment memo creation, and ongoing portfolio administration. The role requires direct communication with company founders to coordinate diligence, manage expectations, and address gaps throughout the investment process. In addition to investment support, the analyst will contribute to flagship programming such as the annual SportsLand™ event and startup competition, helping to organize, track, and report on Center activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required) (Preferably in Sports Management or Business)
  • 1+ years professional experience, ideally in investment analysis, venture capital, consulting, finance, or innovation-related roles (Preferred)
  • Proven written, research, analytical, and verbal communication skills (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to work proactively and independently, while knowing when to seek guidance (Required proficiency)
  • Sophisticated interpersonal skills for managing sensitive information and interacting with company founders and stakeholders at all levels (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment (Required proficiency)
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in documentation and deliverables (Required proficiency)
  • Enthusiasm for learning about emerging technologies and curiosity about innovation in sports medicine, healthcare, and business (Required proficiency)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in college/professional sports (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assist with due diligence for companies considered by the UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center (HSIC), including data room management, investment memo creation, and decisioning processes.
  • Maintain organized files and processes to support the addition of new companies to the HSIC portfolio.
  • Track and report on investment pipeline status, portfolio updates, and key milestones.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for company founders during diligence, managing expectations and addressing questions or gaps.
  • Coordinate communications between UH Ventures, DSMI, and external partners to ensure smooth investment processes.
  • Support the planning and execution of HSIC programming, including the annual SportsLand™ event and startup competition.
  • Assist with logistics, communications, and reporting for Center events and initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with UH Ventures, DSMI, and other system stakeholders to advance enterprise innovation and investment priorities.
  • Contribute to team meetings, project coordination, and ongoing process improvement.
  • Prepare written reports, presentations, and status updates as needed.
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
  • Uphold UH policies and standards, including the secure handling of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
