About The Position

Position Title: Ink Technician Reports to: Production Shift Supervisor FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Department: Production Position Summary: The Ink Technician is responsible for maintaining the proper flow of inks and compounds to the press as required for the job. This includes; all varieties of inks, adhesives, thinners, varnishes, topcoats, etc. The Ink Technician coordinates and controls the preventive maintenance and calibration of all equipment within the ink department. In acquiring, preparing and staging critical job components the Ink Technician’s function is vital to insure the uninterrupted workflow of the production department.

Requirements

  • Individual must be able to monitor processes, materials and equipment.
  • Individual must be able to work independently with minimal guidance required. This implies good time management, planning/organization, and decision-making skills.
  • Individual must be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, maintaining flexibility, objectivity and a capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Participation and support of 5S initiatives and activities.
  • 1-2 years relevant experience in inks or printing preferred.
  • High school diploma / GED / or equivalent.
  • Individual should possess basic math and computer skills.
  • English language required.

Responsibilities

  • Uses the production schedule to pre-stage color matched ink and compounds for press ready jobs to limit press downtime and maintain continuous operation of press work centers.
  • Assists with color matching of jobs at press as needed.
  • Maintains all consumable supplies for the ink department. This includes responsibility for: Inventory balance Inventory accuracy Inventory ordering Inventory receipts (raw material) Inventory costing to job
  • Maintains a complete, controlled and secure database of all ink formulations.
  • Maintains an inventory of inks that meet the specifications for proper pH and viscosity.
  • Coordinates and conducts regularly scheduled preventive maintenance and calibration of all ink related equipment within the department.
  • Maintains a neat, clean and well organized work area.
  • Ensures disposition of returned inks to the appropriate locations in the ink area.
  • Takes precautions to protect equipment, property and product against loss.
  • Suggests improvements to ink and production procedures, and acts to improve quality, timeliness or reduce costs.
  • Adheres to all quality control processes and procedures and actively supports the company’s internal audit program.
