Joining our team means you can truly make an impact. The Ink Manager oversees ink levels, testing, sampling, and supplies. This role serves as a resource for all departments, ensuring that production and finishing capabilities meet customer expectations. The position also manages the daily operations of the Ink Department, ensuring inks are delivered to each press on time, at the required quality, and in a cost‑efficient manner. In addition, the Ink Manager supervises internal and external supplier staff and communicates with Customers, Suppliers, MCC Leadership, Procurement, Technical Development, R&D, Managers, Supervisors, operations personnel, and Sales. The role helps maintain strong relationships, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and evaluate new products. The Ink Manager must also understand MCC’s Novamet program, including preparing and mixing Novamet inks for production, managing related inventory levels, and applying the necessary technical knowledge. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry‑related education or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years running a production ink room
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in an ink/color‑matching role
  • Knowledge of raw‑material formulation and accurate understanding of product costs
  • Extensive knowledge of pigment and coating selection and capabilities
  • Advanced knowledge of color formulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PPT, etc.)
  • Ability to think independently and assertively
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • The physical demands require standing, using hands to finger, feel andtouch; reach with arms and hands; talk and hear. This position requires frequent walking. Occasionally employee is required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements are close vision, distance vision, color vision,peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the Ink Department (internal and external staff), ensuring proper staffing and coverage
  • Serve as the plant’s technical leader for Novamet Ink Chemistry
  • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate Ink Technicians; work with HR on discipline, terminations, and recruitment
  • Develop ink technology training for operations
  • Collaborate with Procurement on purchasing products
  • Manage ink and anilox inventory levels
  • Maintain and reduce the cost structure of purchased products
  • Oversee inventory control for the department
  • Maintain accurate records and formulations for inks used on customer orders
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained through preventive and unscheduled maintenance
  • Research and recommend changes in production methods, new products, and equipment to improve productivity, quality, and cost
  • Assist with planning and executing press approvals
  • Promote quality and safety
  • Respond to customer requests in a timely, efficient, and professional manner
  • Support press operators in resolving issues quickly to prevent or reduce downtime
  • Manage color standards and approval processes
  • Maintain vendor relationships
  • Manage returns of defective materials—including inks, varnishes, stock, and supplies—for credit
  • Oversee waste disposal programs for inks, solvents, and glues, including vendor scheduling for pickups
  • Perform post‑run material calculations and compare results to quotes; notify estimating of adjustments as needed
  • Review and approve invoices, including pricing verification
