About The Position

This role focuses on preventing workplace accidents and promotes health and safety awareness and education to individuals within the organization. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Patient Safety duties: Works to prevent workplace accidents and promotes health and safety awareness and education for patients within the organization. A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs. The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. An experienced level role that applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Works independently with general supervision, problems faced are difficult but typically not complex, and may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies and practices. This position has operational responsibility developing, implementing, participating in, and evaluating an Injury Prevention Program for the Trauma Center in conjunction with the Trauma Program Manager and other hospital leaders and departments. Acts as an advocate for injury prevention at the local, state, and federal level.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Public Health, Nursing, or related field
  • Two (2) years of related experience in Injury Prevention Program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Ability to teach and speak publicly.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to organize multiple and complex tasks.
  • Knowledge of program planning and implementation.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to write complex documents.
  • Basic computer skills including word processing, PowerPoint, and data base management.
  • Knowledge of the American College of Surgeons Trauma Center Criteria.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of related experience in Injury Prevention Program development, implementation, and evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Manager develop, coordinate, implement, monitor, and evaluate community outreach injury prevention programs for identified target populations.
  • Develop effective injury prevention materials, tools, and community education publications and handouts that are age-appropriate and in languages appropriate to the target audience. Solicit outside sources of injury prevention materials.
  • Collaborate with existing national, state, and local, and hospital injury prevention programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of injury prevention issues and methodology by participating in programs offered by trauma organizations, reading, and participating in current research, obtaining injury related continuing education, and networking with federal, state and local agencies and professional organizations.
  • Work with the trauma registrar to identify injury prevention needs of the hospital's population.
  • Work with the hospital and Manager to identify sources of funding for injury prevention projects including project proposals and grant applications.
  • Work collaboratively with social work to ensure all admitted trauma patients are screened for alcohol and all positive screens are followed up with a brief intervention.
  • Represent Trauma Service at local, state, and regional injury prevention coalitions. Promote program in the community, with emergency medical services, and among outlying hospitals.
  • Work with hospital departments to promote community outreach.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Trauma Program.
  • Collaborate with others regarding clinical and administrative activities necessary to ensure successful verification by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as a Level I Trauma Center.
  • Assist in preparation for and participate in the ACS site visits.
  • Participate in the Trauma Programs Performance Improvement and Community outreach programs.
  • Provide a monthly report of injury prevention activities to the Manager.
  • Work with resource and budget requirements of the Trauma Service.
