About The Position

Organizational Summary Statement: The Initial Access Team (IAT) Clinician position is a permanent, full-time appointment in the University of Maryland’s Counseling Center. The IAT clinician serves as part of the initial access team and is responsible for providing initial access clinical services to students at UMD. The IAT clinician reports to the Assistant Director of the Counseling Center.

Requirements

  • Licensed or licensed and eligible to practice psychology in the State of Maryland.
  • To be eligible for hire as a Staff Psychologist (exempt salaried 4): Education: Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Five (5) years of clinical practice in total, including experience gained throughout the Educational training. Licenses/ Certifications: Licensed or license-eligible to practice psychology in the State of Maryland within 1 year from hire.
  • To be eligible for hire as a Counselor (exempt salaried 2): Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Two (2) years of clinical experience in an ambulatory mental health setting. Licenses/ Certifications: Licensed or license-eligible as a mental health provider in the State of Maryland. Other: Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) may also be considered with at least 2000 hours of post-graduate supervised clinical work and the ability to obtain a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) license within one year.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Knowledge of individual and group psychotherapy, counseling, diagnostic assessment, psychological and career testing, consultation, outreach, and crisis intervention. Knowledge of group psychodynamics and supervision. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Responsibilities

  • Clinically triage/ assess emergent, urgent, and routine concerns and make appropriate clinical decisions for treatment.
  • Provides solution-focused, single-session appointments to appropriate clients.
  • Provides drop-in consultation on and off-site at various locations on campus.
  • Documents clinical information, keeps timely records, and safeguards the confidentiality of this information.
  • Participates in the Center’s outreach and prevention activities
  • Collaborates with the treatment team, care managers, and other Counseling Center staff concerning the continuity of care, client dispositions, and referral options.
  • Attends staff meetings, serves on Counseling Center and Student Affairs committees, and participates in Center-related activities and other duties as assigned.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures governing the operation of the Initial Access Team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
