Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Graduate of accredited Nursing Assistant Program preferred.
  • Completion of competency skills checklist prior to performing tasks independently.
  • Certification from an Accredited CMA program is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurses.
  • Prepares examination rooms.
  • Prepares patients for examinations.
  • Processes charts.
  • Assists Office Professionals with clerical duties.
  • Completes and records patient vital signs, spirometry readings, and administers EKGs.
  • Assists with office procedures.
  • Administers injections and vaccines.
  • Draws and processes blood and lab specimens.
  • Renders basic first aid when necessary.
  • Ensures that all data elements are captured in each patient visit.
  • Manages supplies (ordering and stocking of examination rooms/clinic area); sterilizes instruments; cleans examination rooms.
  • Prepares patient information and processes related paperwork.
  • Follows guidelines and procedures set by both the Medical Director and the CHS Quality Assurance (QA) Team.
  • Responsible for direct patient communications regarding lab results, future appointments, hospital admissions, and referral appointments.
  • Answers patient questions or directs them to the proper resources whether in person or over the phone.
  • May serve on committees, work groups or other bodies as assigned.
  • Performs clerical duties, including filing, as needed.
