Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree
• Teacher Cert (Math or Science focus)
• Previous experience working within an alternative setting.
• Administering instruction to youth within the justice system.
• Ability to support and promote academic instruction and link with Career and Readiness Standards.
• Demonstrated ability to work with students from a variety of culture and linguistic backgrounds, age, and language/academic proficiency levels.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively with administrators, teachers, students, and staff as well as under appropriate supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment with a high degree of flexibility is desired.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain standards of professional conduct and work ethics includingattendance, punctuality and performance is required.
• Demonstrated ability to actively seek opportunities to grow professionally is desired.

Nice To Haves

• Master's Degree
• Successful teaching experience at correctional facilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Providing instruction at the Ingham County Youth Center, an alternative educational setting to juvenile youth that are temporarily detained.
• Deliver instruction in a correctional facility setting to help increase academic achievement.
• Implement and deliver instruction in Math and Science.
• Assist in administering assessment procedures and instruments, both standardized and authentic, to evaluate students’ academic achievement.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of students for evaluation purposes and the monitoring of progress.
• Work collaboratively with ICYC staff, LSD Administrators, and community agencies.
• Facilitate and encourage a learning environment that fosters successful social and academic experiences related to workforce skills and acculturation processes.
