About The Position

The Infusion RN is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the Consulting/infusion department. Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with minimal supervision. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with practitioners about changes in patient's status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies. Initiate IV’s via central venous devices or by peripheral access and administers blood transfusions, or drug infusions as ordered and directed by a licensed practitioner.

Requirements

  • Current IL RN License Required
  • BLS Required
  • ACLS Required
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certified through the Oncology Nurse Society within 6 months of hire
  • Registered Nurse minimum 2 years
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate EMR programs
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently in a team environment
  • Excellent ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to changes in assignment
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Nice To Haves

  • Chemotherapy experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs accurate and complete assessment of patients; coordinates and ensures completion of interdisciplinary screenings and assessments; assesses and reassesses pain; assessments are age, culture and psychosocial appropriate.
  • Provides patient care with consideration of the patient’s needs, age, culture and appropriate standards of care.
  • Educates the patient/ family regarding treatment plan and follow up instructions given per provider instructions including any education handouts.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of pain medications; ability to revise care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment.
  • Prepares and administers medications based on age / clinical condition of the patient per policy and nursing standards of care; manages supply of medications and contacts pharmacy as needed to ensure uninterrupted medication therapy.
  • Ability to manage antineoplastic agents and therapy following safety protocols, in consideration of physical and psychological effects, risks and benefits.
  • Explains procedures to patient/family; utilizes specialty equipment; assists practitioners(s) with procedures; utilizes other departments to provide interdisciplinary care as appropriate; utilizes pain management techniques.
  • Follows medical records documentation guidelines regarding timeliness of reviews and completeness of documentation; obtains and documents accurate and thorough patient medical history including pertinent history, pain assessment, current medications, identified health risk factors and other needed information.
  • Performs all aspects of the position in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors; utilizes established hand-off communication protocols; maintains the security of the department.
  • Cross-trained to all consulting areas for coverage options.
  • Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
