JOB TYPE Classification: Non Exempt Supervises Positions: JOB SUMMARY Infusion Therapy Administration:Coordinate and administer therapeutic IV treatments and infusions, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products, and supportive care agents, following established protocols and guidelines.Monitor patients closely during infusion treatments, promptly addressing and managing any complications or adverse reactions.Manage complications associated with infusion therapies, such as adverse reactions or infusion site issues.Demonstrate expertise in the insertion, care, and maintenance of intravenous (IV) lines and central venous devices.Ensure compliance with infection control practices and standards in the management of vascular access devices.Complete ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification within the first year of employment.Maintain AHA BLS certification.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Experience: Prior experience in oncology nursing and infusion therapy preferred.
  • Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
  • Licensure: Oncology Nursing Certification – Preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and emotionally challenging environment.
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy drugs, their administration, and potential side effects.
  • Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) and other relevant healthcare technology.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and administer therapeutic IV treatments and infusions, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products, and supportive care agents, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Monitor patients closely during infusion treatments, promptly addressing and managing any complications or adverse reactions.
  • Manage complications associated with infusion therapies, such as adverse reactions or infusion site issues.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the insertion, care, and maintenance of intravenous (IV) lines and central venous devices.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control practices and standards in the management of vascular access devices.
  • Complete ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification within the first year of employment.
  • Maintain AHA BLS certification.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients before, during, and after infusion therapy to evaluate their overall health and response to treatment.
  • Provide thorough education to patients and their caregivers on the purpose of infusion therapy, potential side effects, and self-care measures.
  • Work with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive comprehensive education and proper resources tailored to their care needs.
  • Analyze and interpret laboratory reports related to patients' oncology status, ensuring timely communication of findings to the healthcare team.
  • Monitor pertinent lab results to assess patients' eligibility and qualification for specific therapies, collaborating with the provider to adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Maintain certifications on all lab equipment to perform Point-of-Care (POC) testing for quick turnaround of CBCs, INRs, urinalysis testing, and blood glucose testing.
  • Demonstrate expertise in conducting POC testing, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results for immediate clinical decision-making.
  • Uphold quality control measures and adhere to regulatory standards in performing POC testing.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting infusion therapy details, vital signs, nursing assessments, and interventions.
  • Ensure adherence to documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve patient care based on feedback from staff and customers.
  • Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention.
  • Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Monitors quality of core process in department.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
  • Obtains complete history and physical data on patients.
  • Reviews patient records.
  • Performs a complete physical exam and records findings.
  • Establishes presumptive diagnosis.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Provides care that is appropriate for specific age groups.
