About The Position

The position is within the Outpatient Infusion department, working under the supervision of the Outpatient Infusion Nurse Manager and Director of Critical Care. The role requires demonstrating the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the department. The individual will perform various clinical and office duties, including routine patient care and clerical functions such as taking vital signs, administering approved medications, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, cleaning equipment, and maintaining infusion rooms/bays. The position also involves assisting with the efficient flow of patients through departments while focusing on the delivery of quality care. The role promotes a positive work environment through productive communication and collaboration with other staff members.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant training program from an accredited school required.
  • Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) License from the State of California required.
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year Medical Assistant experience required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year Phlebotomy experience required.
  • Must have successfully completed the Medication Administration Test administered by SVMHS.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and escorts patients to infusion rooms/bays for service.
  • Records patient vital signs, weight, and changes in medical history prior to treatment, ensuring medication reconciliation is up to date.
  • Cleans and prepares infusion rooms/bays prior to each patient visit.
  • Assists with tasks such as answering phones, greeting, and accepting patients for service.
  • Assists with the Nurse Manager and staff in maintaining the medical inventory and placing orders for supplies/equipment as needed.
  • Administers approved medications per physician orders.
  • Performs blood draws and dressing changes as appropriate.
  • Provides patients with general procedure information/instructions, refers to clinical RN staff appropriately.
  • Answers telephone in a professional manner and addresses or directs the call to the appropriate person.
  • Collaborates with pharmacy within the infusion center.
  • Provides clinical staff with feedback regarding the patient's ability to ambulate if appropriate.
  • Ensures patient flow continues within the infusion center.
  • Collaborates with RN staff, licensed practitioners, clerical staff, and pharmacy staff.
  • Assumes an active role in continuous quality improvement processes.
  • Uses appropriate communication and teamwork skills when working with patients and staff.
  • Supports and promotes a positive inter-departmental work environment.
  • Assists with patient flow to include ambulation of patients or assisting patients with undressing/dressing.
  • Assists with the collection or organization of data for process improvements as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Hourly rate for this position is $29.99 - $38.02.
