The Infrastructure Engineer role in the Mainframe OS/ISV team, within the Mainframe and Midrange Compute (MMC) organization, is responsible for planning, designing, installation, configuration, and support of highly resilient and stable Mainframe infrastructure employing automated scripting where feasible. The candidate must possess strong Mainframe Systems Programming including a deep understanding of z/OS Concepts, JCL, JES, SDSF, VSAM, Catalog management, SMP/E, USS, Parallel Sysplex, IBM system utilities and some of the IBM/Broadcom CA/ BMC Compuware software artifacts. Additionally, experience with software-driven systems management using scripting languages such as JCL, REXX, Python, Unix Shell scripting, and zOSMF Workflows is desired. The candidate should be driven to develop solutions to complex problems through automation tools and be familiar with RESTful APIs, zOWE, and zOAU; enthusiasm for technology and openness to innovative ideas for managing Mainframe infrastructure software are also key attributes for success in this role.A passion for technology and openness to innovative ideas for managing Mainframe infrastructure software are also key attributes for success in this role.

  • Applies technical knowledge and problem-solving methodologies to projects of moderate scope, with a focus on improving the data/systems running at scale; and ensures end to end monitoring of applications
  • Resolves most nuances and determines appropriate escalation path
  • Executes conventional approaches to build or break down technical problems
  • Drives the daily activities supporting the standard capacity process applications
  • Partners with application and infrastructure teams to identify potential capacity risks and govern remediation statuses
  • Considers upstream/downstream data/systems or technical implications
  • Accountable for making significant decisions for a project consisting of multiple technologies and applications
  • Experience using SMP/E to install and maintain IBM and Independent Software vendor products.
  • Strong Mainframe Systems Programming including a deep understanding of z/OS Concepts, JCL, JES, SDSF, VSAM, Catalog management, SMP/E, USS, Parallel Sysplex, IBM system utilities and some of the IBM/Broadcom CA/ BMC Compuware software artifacts.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with clear communication
  • Understanding or have experience with agile and lean philosophies
  • Ability to collaborate with different roles to achieve common goals
  • Software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages: REXX, Unix Scripting, zOSMF Workflows, Python etc.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, zOWE, zOAU etc
