This position is responsible for monitoring, supporting, and participating in the development and enhancements of distributive system management platforms at Horizon BCBSNJ. The role involves resolving complex technical issues, guiding junior analysts, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring adherence to service level agreements (SLAs). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in IT, particularly in distributed computing platforms, and will be expected to contribute to architectural changes and improvements within the infrastructure.

  • Resolve issues through level 3 in server, operating systems or other software under the control of the Distributed Systems management team
  • Provide guidance to junior infrastructure analysts and follow guidance from Lead and senior members
  • Perform day-to-day operations to maintain SLAs and business functions
  • Acquire knowledge of new technologies and implement them to benefit Horizon
  • Manage vendor relationships including hardware, software, and maintenance contracts
  • Escalate issues when necessary to senior members of the team for resolution
  • Take ownership of all assigned level II and III issues and be responsible for follow-up from end to end
  • Installation and configuration of applications, clusters, and databases
  • Document processes and procedures for infrastructure support
  • Implement architectural changes to infrastructure systems
  • Attend technical meetings with peers and contribute knowledge to discussions
  • Suggest, recommend, and plan architectural changes to infrastructure
  • Run technical meetings with peers and above
  • Bachelor's degree required or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 9+ years of related IT work experience
  • Requires knowledge of distributive computing platforms
  • Requires Microsoft server technologies and WinTel platforms
  • Requires understanding in email platforms/technologies
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to write and discuss clear procedures regarding technical issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of personnel
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to develop project plans
  • Change Management methodologies preferred
  • Experience with VMware Technologies: vSphere 7.x/8.x, vSAN, vROPs/Aria Operation
  • Good understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, WINS, SNMP, OSI layers, Firewalls, Routers, Switches, VLANs, telnet, FTP, Secure FTP, VPN, HTTP, and HTTPS
  • Deep understanding of technologies such as Internet Information Servers (IIS), SQL servers, Clusters, Application servers, Distributed Computing platforms with COM+ applications, BizTalk, Dot Net, Terminal Services
  • Solid understanding of Windows infrastructure including Active Directory, DNS, Certificate Authority, Batch and scripting, WMI, Security Updates, service packs
