About The Position

“Opportunities start here” is more than a slogan at Matanuska-Susitna College (Mat-Su College/ MSC); it is our mission. Mat-Su College, a proud community campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage, is seeking a skilled and collaborative Infrastructure Administrator to join our mission-focused team. MSC Campus Technology Services (CTS) ensures secure, reliable, and high- performing systems that support the academic and operational needs of our campus community. This position is responsible for advanced systems administration necessary to implement, maintain, and optimize enterprise services. Duties include systems design, testing, and impact assessment of servers, storage, and LAN components. The Infrastructure Administrator will maintain critical services such as VMware vSphere, Omnissa Horizon, Hyper-V, Active Directory (AD DS, AD CS), DNS, DHCP, GPO, and SQL, while monitoring performance and ensuring compliance with university standards and licensing requirements. The role also involves performing regular systems monitoring to ensure data backup integrity, evaluating disaster recovery procedures, and documenting recovery plans. Additional responsibilities include developing technical documentation, Change Management requests, operational guides, and project plans for system upgrades. The Infrastructure Administrator serves as an expert advisor for campus systems, providing solutions and high-level problem resolution, and coordinating support and licensing with external vendors. Security is a critical focus: this position will manage firewall operations, conduct threat analysis, implement intrusion prevention strategies, and apply security patches to safeguard campus systems. The Infrastructure Administrator will also assist with desktop (physical and virtual) management platforms such as Omnissa Horizon and MECM, provide backup and mentoring for Desktop Technicians and IT student workers, and respond promptly to customer support requests. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong technical expertise, excellent problem- solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues in CTS and at UAA IT Services. This position requires periodic after-hours and weekend work for projects, system updates, or service recovery efforts, as well as ongoing professional development through training and certifications. They should bring enterprise-level experience with virtualization platforms like VMware vSphere and Hyper-V, as well as iSCSI SAN storage systems. A strong working knowledge of networking fundamentals—including IP protocols, firewalls, Cisco switching, wireless LAN technologies, and cabling installation and termination—is essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional troubleshooting skills, the ability to collaborate effectively within a team, and have outstanding customer service and communication abilities. Strong organizational and time-management skills are also critical for successfully managing multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic campus technology environment.
