About The Position

You will be the Infrared (IR) Camera Systems Engineer for Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Programs team in Santa Barbara, CA. Our team delivers cutting edge IR sensor solutions for space, defense, and commercial customers, turning innovative concepts into high performance hardware that protects lives worldwide. What You Will Be Doing As the IR Camera Systems Engineer you will lead technical teams, shape future product roadmaps, and ensure current IR camera productions run flawlessly. You will partner with internal stakeholders and external customers to define requirements, model system performance, and verify that every design meets its goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in an engineering, mathematics, or science field
  • Engineering or Physics background
  • Excellent presentation and written communications skills
  • Strong customer coordination experience
  • Experience with performance analysis of IR camera systems
  • Ability to lead technical teams to meet cost, schedule, and performance goals.
  • Understanding of infrared sensor systems and supporting, mechanical, and optical systems.
  • Transition of high technology product from Development to Production
  • Troubleshooting and failure analysis of sophisticated hardware.
  • Ability to obtain a secret security clearance, must be a US Citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD from an accredited college in related discipline
  • Understanding of FPA manufacturing technologies
  • Closed cycle cryogenic systems.
  • Vacuum packaging
  • MATLAB programming expertise
  • Radiometric testing and analysis of IR systems or sensors
  • Familiar with high vacuum and ESD handling requirements
  • Background or familiarity with electronics and equipment related to infrared video collection, analysis, and test
  • Understanding of reliability engineering and 6 sigma principles.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering and MBSE
  • CAMEO and DOORS expertise
  • Reading mechanical drawings

Responsibilities

  • Leading EO/IR analysis and physics based modeling to develop and validate sensor system concepts.
  • Driving trade studies, requirements definition, and architectural decisions for new and existing IR cameras.
  • Acting as project/technical lead: creating detailed plans, tracking tasks, schedules, budgets, and earned value metrics.
  • Presenting technical briefings and status updates to customers, program leadership, and senior directors with clear, compelling communication.
  • Supervising and mentoring multidisciplinary engineers and technicians (mechanical, electrical, optical) to execute design, integration, and test activities.
  • Conducting system debugging and troubleshooting, providing rapid technical direction to resolve hardware issues.
  • Supporting production operations by reviewing manufacturing processes, ensuring build up compliance, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, design data, and configuration control in LM tools.
  • Collaborating with cross functional partners—including systems, software, test, and quality teams—to guarantee seamless integration.
  • Traveling as needed to supplier sites, customer facilities, or test ranges to support critical milestones and interface reviews.
