About The Position

The Information Technology Technician II position at Fairfax County Government involves providing IT support to the Circuit Court's customers. The role includes installing and configuring hardware and software, performing daily operations and maintenance of servers, managing internal inventory audits, and serving as a technical lead for jury systems and the Circuit Court's website. The technician will also support and troubleshoot courtroom technology equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or an associate degree in computer science or related field.
  • Three years of experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting personal computers and network/telecommunications systems; or one year of similar experience with an associate degree.
  • Knowledge of communications protocol and standards.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and software application packages.
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to train and provide support to computer users.
  • Ability to perform personal computer system troubleshooting on both software and hardware problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting end users in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Experience providing technical advice and assistance to senior level leadership.
  • Knowledge of Virginia court processes and experience with court case management systems.
  • Experience with Jury Plus Solutions, CPAN, Symantec NetBackup Enterprise, Oracle, MS SQL, SharePoint 2013, Hyper-V, MS Server 2008/2012, FileTrail.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with IT support to customers of the Circuit Court.
  • Installs and configures hardware and software.
  • Performs daily operations and maintenance of servers for Fairfax Circuit Court systems.
  • Manages internal inventory audits for all computer equipment.
  • Serves as a technical lead for all jury systems and the Circuit Court's website.
  • Supports and troubleshoots courtroom technology equipment.
  • Provides hardware and software support of PCs and network/telecommunications system infrastructure equipment.
  • Responds to calls from users and troubleshoots Level 1 problems.
  • Diagnoses, tracks, resolves, and documents problems.
  • Serves as initial point-of-contact with vendors to solve problems.
  • Identifies and resolves hardware, software, communications, and networking problems related to end-user computing.
  • Schedules and coordinates preventative maintenance on computer and peripheral equipment.
  • Installs, configures, and tests new and updated releases of end-user software systems and computing equipment.
  • Advises, trains, and assists users on how best to utilize the system.
  • Trains and cross-trains fellow employees on system operations and usage.
  • Performs password and other various levels of security support on systems.
  • Analyzes statistics and writes reports on system events and performance.
  • Creates and manages databases, procedures, and documentation.
