Please note the job posting displays the full-time salary amount. This is a part-time position that works 20 hours a week at a salary of $21.90 per hour. Our mission... To equitably protect and empower consumers and workers while maintaining a predictable yet innovative regulatory environment for the businesses we regulate. The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombuds to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses. Here’s what you will do: As a DCBS Intern, you will partner with State of Oregon professionals and work on DCBS projects to create process improvements for the agency. Each intern will gain knowledge and grow skills necessary to be a State of Oregon professional. Interns will learn how to apply for future jobs and participate in networking opportunities across the State of Oregon. The SDD Interns will work on updated our IT System Interdependency Diagram. You will review and update the existing System Interdependency Diagram in coordination with software development and system infrastructure staff. You will collect information about missing environments and create diagrams to illustrate key functionality. The interns will work with a variety of IT staff. This internship will run from June 15, 2026 to August 20, 2026. The scheduled hours will be 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will be located in Labor and Industries building at 350 Winter St NE Salem, OR. Due to the nature of the duties performed by this position, remote work is not available.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in college at least half time at the time of application OR Be at least 18 years of age by the time the program starts on June 15, 2026
  • Demonstrated ability with Microsoft computer applications, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly present information
  • Skills in team engagement; problem-solving and resolution
  • A resume and cover letter are required for this job posting.

Nice To Haves

  • An understanding of accessible, user‑centered design principles
  • Familiarity with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing tools and assistive technology
  • An understanding of front‑end fundamentals, including writing semantic HTML, ARIA, CSS, and basic JavaScript
  • Familiarity with the Bootstrap front-end toolkit
  • Familiarity with React development
  • Understanding of version control with Git
