About The Position

The IS Consultant for Student Services, shall be directly responsible to the Director of Information Systems. Through the installation and support of computer services, the IS Consultant shall assist districts with the utilization of data for instructional improvement and administrative decision making. Plan, develop, conduct, and/or facilitate staff development activities for introducing and demonstrating innovative techniques and methods. Collaboratively plan, develop and/or facilitate long-range instructional staff development programs across ESC teams for ESC (Education Service Center) and LEA’s (Local Education Agencies). Actively participate as a member of the ESC/LEA team and within the appropriate Professional Learning Community (PLC). Assist with compiling, analyzing, and/or interpreting data, such as student performance in relation to state standards and program evaluation, to attain program excellence. Secure the aid of resource persons and consultants to supplement and enrich programs of local schools. Assist with the development of procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of service center programs and recommend modifications as needed to attain ESC goals. Keep abreast of current instructional practices and techniques, professional literature, and state and federal regulations related to job responsibilities. Acquire, develop, and demonstrate new skills by participating in professional growth activities in cross-functioning teams. Maintain open communication and confidentiality in accordance with the Texas Professional Standards of Ethics. Exhibit effective communication skills and professional demeanor when communicating with clients. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Systems and/or other ESC administrators.

Requirements

Bachelor degree in accounting or business administration preferred
Minimum of 5 years experience in Texas public education administrative computer software, processing, accounting, computer networks & servers, and PEIMS/TSDS preferred.
The IS Consultant must possess the voice, temperament, and emotions to constantly maintain good public relations with clients and a positive attitude toward teaming with and helping other staff.

Responsibilities

Manage the operation of Information Systems’ local area networks and networks of participating LEAs.
Assist LEAs in the identification of appropriate data which relate to their existing plans.
Provide an awareness of existing INformation Systems services as related to LEA plans.
Assist LEAs in planning for accurate PEIMS data submissions.
Assist LEAs in planning for acquisition of appropriate hardware and software which promote organized and efficient work environments.
Provide training, instruction, and technical support to enhance the utilization of appropriate Information Systems services and related technologies.
Assist local education agencies with collecting, editing and submitting their PEIMS data to the Texas Education Agency in a timely manner.
Assist local education agencies with resolving problems associated with Information Systems applications software. When an-in-house solution is not available, submit a problem report.
Utilize appropriate technology as required.
Keep abreast of current practices, methodologies, and technologies by continuous use of professional literature and attendance at professional meetings.
Act as a resource person to school districts pertaining to the use of computers in school business, student services, teacher management, special education management, PEIMS, and other administrative applications, where appropriate.
Provide a master file of user documentation and communicate changes to users.
Collect input data for program improvements from participating users, forward request to programmers, ande follow-up to users.
Continually evaluation the job performance of the Information Systems consultant through correspondences, conferences, and evaluations.
Initiate appropriate communications as needed.
Maintain confidentiality in dealing with client schools.
Comply with policies and procedures supporting state law and State Board of Education rules.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Systems and/or other ESC administration.
