About The Position

The University of Wyoming is seeking a Research Associate to support the activities of the Wyoming Water Development Office. This position is grant funded and considered at-will employment. The role involves assisting with the distribution of information and documents through the office's websites and supporting water planning efforts, including identifying aging water infrastructure statewide. The successful candidate will work with the Water Resources Data System/State Climate Office (WRDS/SCO) to maintain and disseminate water and climate data for the State of Wyoming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • 2 years work-related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using GIS and ESRI products.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Access.
  • Experience with HTML coding and web design.
  • Experience with public speaking and customer service.
  • Knowledge of water resources, hydrology, and hydrologic processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform GIS tasks (reviewing, editing, cataloging, and creating geospatial data) in ArcGIS.
  • Maintain Wyoming’s Water & Climate Hub.
  • Assist with conducting annual surveys pertaining to agricultural and municipal water use in the State of Wyoming.
  • Update documents and information on the Wyoming Water Development Commission/Office websites.
  • Review project work products for conformance with scope and consistency; participate in data dissemination efforts.
  • Serve as a member of the State’s water planning team and participate in River Basin Planning activities statewide.
  • Assist in the development of products conveying the status of Wyoming’s water resources and climate conditions.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups including governmental agencies.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations to local and state audiences.
  • Represent WRDS/SCO at meetings and outreach venues throughout the state and region.
  • Assist other WRDS personnel in fulfilling external data requests related to Wyoming’s water and climate.
  • Assist in the development of visualizations of environmental datasets.
  • Enter hard-copy data into spreadsheets or other digital storage as necessary.
