About The Position

Valero's products fuel modern life and make a better future possible. Join a 40-year legacy of excellence and find your future with us! Exceptional students bring their game-day best to our internship program each year. This year, will it be you? The internship program inspires tomorrow's innovators by developing highly motivated students who are ready for challenging projects in various areas including Functional (Business Analyst), Technical (Developer), and Infrastructure roles. Interns assigned a Functional role may serve as a member of a project team or work independently on enhancements to an existing system. You will be assigned to one of our business units such as Refining, Marketing and Supply, Finance, Accounting, or Human Resources. Interns will work directly with members of that business unit along with technical resources from the Information Services department on designing, building, and/or enhancing solutions to the real-world business challenges Valero faces in the market. Activities include gathering and documenting business requirements, testing new software releases, and/or training customers on new systems. Interns within the Technical area are asked to help develop and maintain the business software used at Valero. Assignments range from being a team member on a major project to deploy a brand new system, to working independently on enhancements to existing systems. Platforms include Application/Web Development (Java, J2EE, ABAP, C#, .NET), Database Engine (SQL Server, Oracle), Integration/Middleware (SAP PI/MII, webMethods), Reporting/Analytics (BW, HANA, Business Objects), and Portal (Microsoft SharePoint). Interns assigned to the Infrastructure and Operations department are placed in hands-on positions in areas such as server and network support, data and network security, and the Valero Technical Operations Center (VTOC). The Department is responsible for the design, build, and 24x7 support of critical computing resources such as servers, storage, data centers, and voice and data networks. Knowledge of operating systems, infrastructure, and scripting languages are essential to success in this area. Our Information/Cyber Security team ensures information assurance policies and procedures are adhered to, providing appropriate access and usage of company information. This is done by enabling frameworks, security best practices, and industry-led resources securing Valero's information assets, including networks, systems, Internet connections, and other electronic, communication, or computing resources.
