About The Position

In this position, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The LEAP Program will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful projects, engage in career development opportunities, and network with our business leaders and the other students in the program. BAE Systems is seeking an ON-SITE Systems Administrator Intern for Summer 2026. Join our IT Operations Team within our Network Infrastructure Support Program Area and become a member of a highly productive team, where each employee has the opportunity to grow their skills and work on rewarding system and network operations projects. The selected candidate will perform the following functions working closely with interdisciplinary teams in support of the US Navy's Strategic Systems Programs—a program that keeps our nation safe with a credible sea-based nuclear deterrent.

Requirements

  • Enrolled student at an accredited 4-year college/university having completed a minimum of two years (Sophomore) towards an Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Ability to interact with and effectively present information to peers, management, and customers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with partners and government officials
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Effective organizational and time management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience hardening systems in accordance with DISA's Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • The ability to understand and remediate vulnerabilities identified by CTOs, IVAMs, DISA STIGS, ACAS, and evaluate STIGs
  • Experience with PowerShell to automate tasks and manage systems
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Web, File and Print services
  • Experience conducting security control reviews and risk assessments

Responsibilities

  • Conduct information system risk assessments to include potential threat and vulnerability identification and mitigation(s)
  • Support Assessment and Authorization and other security test events or reviews to achieve accreditation milestones
  • Perform periodic required security reviews
  • Oversee the approval process for gaining access to classified systems
  • Perform Windows Administration tasks to include: account management, patching, assigning permissions
  • Maintain system stability
  • Troubleshoot and provide technical support to employees
  • Upgrade and install application software and computer hardware
  • Remediate vulnerabilities
  • Resolve outstanding issues in a POA&M
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for environments including network diagrams, hardware/software baselines, installation and configuration procedures, troubleshooting guidelines, and operational procedures
