The Appian Information Security department continuously evaluates the threat-landscape for Appian operations and service offerings. Appian is seeking a talented Information Security Engineering Intern to make an impact on our Information Security team. Over the summer you’ll assist with security engineering projects to support security operations, monitoring, and compliance. You will have an opportunity to develop and work on tools and systems that protect critical assets from emerging threats as well as evaluate international security concerns, vulnerability management, and industry security regulations. This internship is based at our headquarters in McLean, Virginia. Appian was built on a culture of in-person collaboration, which we believe is a key driver of our mission to be the best. Interns in this program are expected to be in the office 5 days a week to fully experience our culture, learn directly from peers and mentors, and contribute to projects in a collaborative environment. Requirements

  • Undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem solving skills
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux/Unix systems
  • Familiarity in object-oriented programming languages, such as Java, Python, or C++

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the analysis and investigation of security related data from a wide range of security products and devices
  • Work with various Appian systems to design and implement enhanced detection technologies
  • Conduct risk analysis and provide recommendations for remediation or mitigation
  • Help design and build security tools and processes for scanning, testing, monitoring and reporting
  • Conduct security research and present findings to senior engineers and security architects
  • Identify, design, and execute on security projects that improve Appian’s intrusion detection and response capabilities
