About The Position

Under the direction of the Communications Center Manager, the Information and Referral Clerk answers incoming calls to the communication center for either appointments (schedules/reschedules/cancels/transfers) or health center messages (documents/routes/transfers/provides information) from patients/clients/caregivers to assure accurate and timely communications in a culturally sensitive and highly professional manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.), electronic health record systems, and database systems.
  • Fluency in English (speak, read, and write).
  • Fluency in Spanish (speak, translate, read, and write) required.
  • Sensitivity to different cultures represented among patients, callers, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate professionally and caringly.
  • Dependability and reliability with the ability to accept a variety of tasks.
  • Current California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Willingness to work a varied and flexible schedule.
  • Typing speed of 40 wpm.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Previous customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls to the communication center for appointments and health center messages.
  • Ensure accurate and timely communications with patients, clients, and caregivers.
  • Handle a high volume of calls, managing at least 90 or more calls per day.
  • Provide information and assistance in a culturally sensitive manner.
