About the position

Under the direction of the Chief of Communications and External Affairs, the incumbent Public Information Officer I will perform the more difficult professional and technical tasks associated with the conduct of an Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) comprehensive communications and public affairs program. The incumbent is responsible for performing professional and technical tasks related to community outreach, education awareness campaigns, constituent affairs, public affairs, social media posting, planning, and development, video production, graphic design, media relations, and other activities associated with the operations of the office. This will also include, but not be limited to, maintaining contact with other Natural Resources Agency departments and news agencies, writing Web posts, news releases, statements, talking points, opinion pieces, graphic content and copy, Web design work, maintaining the Web site and social media platforms, editing, and publishing official documents.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional and technical tasks related to community outreach and education awareness campaigns.
  • Manage constituent affairs and public affairs activities.
  • Post and manage content on social media platforms.
  • Plan and develop communication strategies.
  • Produce videos and graphic designs for public information.
  • Maintain contact with other Natural Resources Agency departments and news agencies.
  • Write Web posts, news releases, statements, talking points, and opinion pieces.
  • Create and edit graphic content and copy.
  • Maintain the office's website and social media platforms.
  • Edit and publish official documents.

Requirements

  • Must reside in California upon appointment.
  • Ability to perform complex writing and communication tasks.
  • Experience with Word Press and website content management.
  • Experience in graphic design.
