About The Position

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as an Informatics Application Educator in the IT Clinical Applications department. The Informatics Application Educator delivers high quality training for clinical and non-clinical end-users on EHR and other organizational computer systems, gaining deep knowledge of assigned applications, policies, and workflows. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining role-based training curricula and instructional materials, delivering classroom and on-the-job training, managing training logistics, and providing go-live support. Collaborating with Informatics, Application Teams and Operations, they assess training needs, design instructional content, update training environments, develop diverse teaching aids, and evaluate training effectiveness for continuous improvement. Educators ensure training aligns with operational goals, manage resistance to change, and participate in small project management and departmental initiatives. The position requires adherence to training policies, on-site in-person classroom training, and may involve after-hours support and/or occasional travel for meetings or go-live assistance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred (Education, Information Services, Nursing, Healthcare, etc.)
  • Incumbents who do not hold degrees may qualify if they have achieved applicable certifications and/or requisite work experience in training or healthcare. A two-year degree in a healthcare field with appropriate experience may also be acceptable
  • Ability to present complex material to diverse groups and individuals from all levels
  • 2 or more years of experience supporting learning through one-on-one, small group or classroom instruction
  • Knowledge and experience with health care information systems
  • Must possess knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Must be able to troubleshoot basic PC issues
  • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and issues
  • Must be able to logically read and comprehend technical and/or functional manuals and instructions
  • Excellent communication and interview skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills

Responsibilities

  • Develops role‐based training curriculum using a variety of software programs, tools, and applications.
  • Designs, develops and maintains instructional materials. This includes but is not limited to tip sheets, quick start guides, eLearning modules, brochures, multimedia visual aids, agendas, manuals and presentations.
  • Remains current with system changes and enhancements to ensure a thorough knowledge of the application(s).
  • Conducts classroom and on-the-job training for end-users; prepare training environments and materials; follow-up with trainees to address questions and reinforce learning.
  • Sets up and breaks down training classes and ensures training equipment is functional and sufficient for class volumes.
  • Reviews reports, dashboards, and surveys to understand the effectiveness of training.
  • Supports end-users with application & workflow-based knowledge.
  • Manages ServiceNow support ticket
  • Provides application upgrade training & support.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally in verbal and written formats across audiences.
  • Works collaboratively across teams to achieve shared objectives and deadlines.
  • Escalates concerns and/or issues to leadership when appropriate.
  • Creates and maintains training users & patients in Epic training environments.
