About The Position

The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (MaineIT) provides information technology support to over 13,000 employees. The Office of Information Technology’s Radio Operations is seeking an Information System Support Specialist I to work primarily in the Installation Facility. Information System Support Specialist I is responsible for Technical Services in daily radio operations and vehicle UpFit. Work is performed under limited supervision. Join us in maintaining our high standards in our daily vehicle UpFit operation. The Radio Services Team supports several State of Maine Agencies with Two-Way radio communications, Design, specification of emergency equipment, and UpFit of the State’s Public Safety Vehicles. You will work with a dynamic team of highly talented staff supporting all daily operations. Work may involve frequent communications with multiple agencies, and the ability to collaborate in a team environment is critical to this role. Ability to perform work requiring lifting and/or physical exertion may be required. You will be a member of a team providing support for several State of Maine agencies, including the Department of Public Safety, Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Department of Marine Resources, Department of Conservation, Corrections, and Department of Transportation, to mention a few. You will be building public safety vehicles, researching new UpFit equipment and tools, working with managing inventory, prepping UpFit build kits, testing radios, etc.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of local area networks based on PC’s and/or servers.
  • Knowledge of operating systems on PC’s and servers.
  • Knowledge of research techniques.
  • Knowledge of computer application design.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of proper computer system data security/backup procedures.
  • Knowledge of agency procedures and standards.
  • Ability to install computer hardware and software.
  • Ability to load and optimize utilization of advanced computer software and operating systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot computer system problems.
  • Ability to conduct training on computer system operation and software.
  • Ability to consult with agency staff and managers on best usage of a computer system.
  • Ability to perform work requiring lifting and/or physical exertion may be required.
  • A high school diploma or general equivalency AND demonstrated experience in end user IT support.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and building Public Safety Vehicles and the support of LMR Trunked Network systems.
  • Experience with the State Agency vehicles we work with, experience with two-way communications systems, and test equipment will also be considered.
