About The Position

BHSH has an opening for an Infectious Disease Control Consultant. This position will act as an expert/resource for local communities, providers, health care professionals, and the public regarding HIV infection control matters. Duties include: Providing technical assistance and consultation, developing policies and/or protocols and manuals, monitoring providers and/or funded programs for compliance, quality management and evaluation. Advising health care personnel at facilities (e.g., clinics, hospitals, health departments) and the general public statewide on the spread, treatment and containment of HIV/AIDS and accompanying opportunistic infections. Providing updates to HIV CARE Services (HCS) staff and stakeholders on current treatment standards for HIV/AIDS. Maintaining current resource file on HIV/AIDS care and treatment. Providing monitoring, consultation and technical assistance to internal and external customers on matters related to HIV/AIDS quality management and improving viral suppression for Ohioans living with HIV. Developing guidelines and educational/reference materials as needed. Responsible for the development and oversight of clinical quality management activities for Ryan White Part B-funded healthcare providers (e.g., compiles & reviews medical data submitted by providers, provides HIV care-related training to providers). Presenting and participating in conferences targeting health care workers on care guidelines relating to HIV/AIDS, viral suppression, and quality management. Serve as a member of the HCS Quality Improvement Committee and other committees as assigned. Act as a liaison with other state agencies providing services to HIV populations. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This is an hourly position, with a pay range of 13 on the 1199 Pay Range Schedule. Unusual Working Conditions: Exposed to unpredictable patient behavior, illness, infectious &/or communicable diseases. Training and development required to remain in the classification after employment: Biennial renewal of license to practice as Registered Nurse. Educational Transcript Requirements: Official educational transcripts are required for all post-high school educational accomplishments, coursework or degrees claimed on the application. Applicants will be required to submit an official transcript prior to receiving a formal offer of employment. Failure to provide transcripts within 5 working days of being requested will cause the applicant to be eliminated from further consideration. Please note that a transcript is considered "official" only if it is an original copy from the educational institution and includes an institutional watermark, ink stamp or embossed stamp. Transcripts printed from the institution's website will not be accepted. ODH reserves the right to assess the academic credibility of an educational entity's award of a putative degree.

Requirements

  • Current & valid license to practice professional nursing as Registered Nurse (i.e., R.N.) in Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code
  • 24 mos. exp. as Registered Nurse practicing in infection control in a population/community based setting to include both: analysis & interpretation of collected infection control data & investigation & surveillance of suspected outbreaks of infection
  • at least 3 of the following: (i.e., planning, implementation & evaluation of infection prevention & control measures; education of individuals about infection risk, prevention & control; development & revision of infection control policies & procedures; management of infection prevention & control activities; providing consultation on infection risk assessment, prevention & control strategies)
  • 4 mos. trg. or 4 mos. exp. in public speaking/teaching techniques
  • 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in computer operation

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in nursing.
  • Experience in HIV disease and HIV treatment.
  • Experience conducting audits and site visits.
  • Experience presenting training or education programs.
  • Experience working with local medical providers and/or other community agencies.
  • Experience participating in infectious disease case and outbreak investigations.
  • Experience participating in grant writing.
