About The Position

As an Infectious Disease Control Consultant (RN) you will: Serve a fundamental role in providing prevention, intervention, and surveillance of infection or communicable diseases at Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare (COBH). Strong knowledge of COBH procedures for responding to workplace incidents; knowledge of safety and prevention programs, including infection control. Identify and minimize health and safety risks to patients and staff in hospital and community, respond and report per policies. Work with hospital administration, nursing leadership and physicians to in all matters related to infection control. Train and orientate new employees, coordinate and instruct in-service trainings as needed for staff. Investigate, evaluate and resolve problem areas, concerns or reports of infection; document findings and respond accordingly regarding all infection control; review/monitor reports from nursing units for potential issues. Assist in developing and updating hospital-wide infection policies, procedures, and directives and ensures compliance with them. Serve as consultant for patient education programs. Conducts infection control rounds on every unit weekly; utilizes findings as training opportunities; documents and ensures correction of problems. Monitors sterilization and disinfection methods, environmental conditions, equipment and supplies which may cause risks. Manages hospital's influenza, tuberculosis, HIV and other communicable disease programs. Ensures all documentation is maintained in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, accreditation standards, and governing agencies. Compiles monthly, quarterly and annual reports. Maintains expected levels of competency based on current Association of professionals in Infection Control (APIC) recommendations/certifications. Provides assistance in the medical clinic as assigned, including assisting physicians with histories, examinations, procedures, and documentation. This is an hourly position covered by the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 13 on the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are Monday - Friday 7:30am-4:00pm. Please note that this may occasionally require observation/surveillance during off shifts or during the weekend, so schedule can be flexed when need and approved. This position is located within our Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare campus at 2200 West Broad Street Columbus, Ohio 432232200 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223.

Requirements

  • Current & valid license to practice professional nursing as Registered Nurse (i.e., R.N.) in Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code
  • 24 mos. exp. as Registered Nurse practicing in infection control in a population/community based setting to include both: analysis & interpretation of collected infection control data & investigation & surveillance of suspected outbreaks of infection
  • at least 3 of the following: (i.e., planning, implementation & evaluation of infection prevention & control measures; education of individuals about infection risk, prevention & control; development & revision of infection control policies & procedures; management of infection prevention & control activities; providing consultation on infection risk assessment, prevention & control strategies)
  • 4 mos. trg. or 4 mos. exp. in public speaking/teaching techniques
  • 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in computer operation
  • Biennial renewal of licensure as registered nurse required
  • Training, development, and certifications required to remain in the classification after employment
