About The Position

To perform the activities and surveillance of the infection prevention and control program to minimize the risk of healthcare associated infections and the spread of transmissible diseases in patients, staff and visitors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing, Public Health, or Health adjacent field Or Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • 1 Year Previous experience as an Infection Preventionist.
  • Or 3 Years Experience in healthcare or adjacent field (hospital, clinic, public health, lab, etc).
  • Completed specialized training in infection prevention and control. - Required within 90 days of hire. Department will track the completion of this requirement.
  • Must have the following skills and abilities: Analytical, Problem Solving, Collaboration, Conflict Resolution, Leadership.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to implement evidence-based guidelines.
  • Program and project management.
  • Expertise in data collection and analysis, report writing, and data presentation.
  • Familiar with software technologies.

  • International Medical Technologist MT(ASCP) - ASCP Board of Certification -PREFERRED
  • Certified in Infection Control (CIC) - Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology -PREFERRED

Responsibilities

  • Assists in Development, Improvement, and Implementation of Infection Prevention Practices
  • References CDC guidelines, Regulatory standards (e.g., federal, state and local requirements) and accreditation standards pertaining to infection control.
  • Reviews, creates, and disseminates current infection control information to individuals and departments based upon needs assessment and requests.
  • Utilizes appropriate teaching methods as integral part of targeted performance improvement projects and department in-services.
  • Acts as resource, and ensures resources are available to nursing, ancillary, and medical staff to respond to concerns regarding infection control practices.
  • Works with other support departments (Materials Management, EVS, Facilities/Engineering, Safety, etc.) to ensure that process is in place to allow for compliance with appropriate infection control practices.
  • Knows how to access policies for reference and participates in infection control policy and procedure review, implementation, and development, as appropriate.
  • Performs Infection Prevention Surveillance Activities
  • Identify and report healthcare associated infections and transmissible diseases as mandated by local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify patterns and trends.
  • Develop and/or access and utilize reports that contain graphic display of data, analysis of data, and action plans as appropriate.
  • Involved in performance improvement teams to review issues and create action plans as appropriate.
  • Assists with tasks like outbreak/organism of concern/exposure investigation and coordinates with other departments (i.e. Social Work/Case Management, local health department, patient care areas).
  • Pursues professional growth and development of required knowledge and skills.
  • Review and utilize knowledge of evidence-based practices in support of infection prevention.
  • Maintains knowledge of infection prevention and control professional organizations and local resources.
