About The Position

IU Health is Indiana’s largest and most comprehensive healthcare system, and the #1 ranked healthcare provider in the state. We are seeking a dedicated professional to oversee infection surveillance and control efforts, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and promoting safety across the organization. The Infection Preventionist conducts targeted infection surveillance activities, including investigations and responses to outbreaks among patients and/or personnel. They recommend and teach appropriate preventative measures to control infections, ensuring compliance with regulations and accreditation standards. This role has a focus on High Level Disinfection and involves monitoring infection trends, educating staff, and collaborating with regulatory bodies to uphold organizational safety and compliance.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or higher in a healthcare-related field required.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical procedures; microbiology, infectious disease, epidemiology, asepsis, and immunology preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in healthcare or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience in infection control preferred.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national infection control regulations and standards.
  • National certification in infection control (e.g., CIC) preferred within 3 years from the date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct targeted infection surveillance activities, including outbreak investigations and responses.
  • Recommend and teach preventative measures to control infection spread.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and standards related to infection control.
  • Collaborate with regulatory and accrediting agencies to maintain compliance.
  • Monitor infection data and trends, analyzing performance to inform improvement strategies.
  • Educate staff on infection prevention practices and organizational policies.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous infection control improvement.
