In a direct patient facing environment, the infection preventionist professional implements, promotes and maintains an active infection prevention program through surveillance, investigative activities, consultation, education, policy development and Research. A caregiver in this position works 9:00am to 5:00pm with on-call requirements occurring 2-3 times per year, potentially more depending on needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of recent relevant clinical experience including nursing, infection prevention, respiratory therapy, or medical technology
  • Strong communication, clinical assessment, and computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs)
  • Certified in Infection Control - Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc CBIC is required after two years of hire date

Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveillance for hospital acquired infections; analyzes data. Generates reports, identifies trends. Provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Investigate clusters of infections, outbreaks.
  • Utilize knowledge of microbiology, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of patient care equipment.
  • Develop and implement infection prevention policies and procedures.
  • Conduct audits on infection prevention practices.
  • Provide education and serves as a consultant to various levels of care providers.
  • Coordinate infection prevention committee meetings and other related activities.
  • Coordinate the annual infection prevention risk assessment, review, and evaluation of the organization's infection prevention plan.
  • Reports communicable diseases as required by the Ohio Department of Health.
  • Collaborate with health departments in complying with issues related to outbreaks and control of communicable diseases.
  • Comply with mandates for state and federal public reporting of hospital acquired infections.
