About The Position

The Infection Preventionist at Houston Methodist is responsible for implementing and maintaining the Infection Control Program across the institution. This role serves as a liaison between various departments and the Infection Control Committee, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and promoting patient safety through routine surveillance and investigation of infections.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, Microbiology, or Public Health.
• Two years of experience in an acute care or public health setting.
• CIC certification within 3 years of employment.
• Registered Nurse Texas State Licensure or Compact State Licensure.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain the Infection Control Program.
• Coordinate investigations of communicable disease exposures among staff and patients.
• Conduct routine surveillance of healthcare-associated infections and significant communicable diseases.
• Perform medical record audits and communicate quality or risk issues.
• Present educational material on infection prevention and control.
• Identify and investigate clusters of infections and implement preventive interventions.
• Support facility construction planning with Infection Control Risk Assessments.
• Report mandatory infection data to national databases and local health authorities.
• Participate in hospital survey preparation and onsite survey activities.
• Data mine information and produce meaningful statistics and reports.
