About The Position

The Infection Prevention RN or LPN is responsible for the facility infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP), which is designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment and to help prevent the development and transmission of communicable diseases and infections. This role involves providing necessary orientation, educational and learning opportunities within a supportive environment that will assist personnel in gaining knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively. The position also includes monitoring the activities of nursing personnel to ensure quality care that complies with state, federal, and corporate standards.

Requirements

  • 3 years' experience providing direct care to multiple patients/residents preferred.
  • Nursing degree from accredited college or graduation from an approved RN program required.
  • Current unencumbered license to practice as an RN in New Mexico.
  • Current, valid CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of, or training in, adult learning or previous training experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and aseptic technique if performing infection prevention and control duties.
  • Supervisory and training experience highly desirable.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as Charge Nurse in Skilled Nursing environment desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates commitment to company's mission, values and standards of ethical behavior.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates, and directs the facility's infection prevention and control program in accordance with current company policies and procedures.
  • Participates in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies as requested.
  • Monitors infection prevention and control practices and procedures to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Makes rounds of nursing units for case findings, review of environmental sanitation procedures, and supervision of isolation precautions/practices.
  • Reviews and analyzes infectious disease laboratory reports and consults with the Director of Nursing.
  • Ensures that all personnel follow established procedures for disposal of infective and contaminated materials.
  • Models a positive and professional image that emulates the organization's mission.
  • Provides assistance to co-workers and promotes teamwork.
  • Ensures that all residents are treated fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Complies with all company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes regulations, policies, procedures, and job descriptions to define, plan, implement and evaluate learning opportunities.
  • Assesses learning needs of personnel.
