The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, coordinating, and directing the infection control program in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern nursing care facilities. This role ensures compliance with CDC, OSHA, and local regulations concerning infection control. The nurse will develop and maintain infection control precautions, monitor practices, and provide reports and recommendations to the Administrator and Director of Nursing Services. The position involves administrative, committee, personnel, nursing care, consultation, staff development, equipment and safety functions, care plan functions, budget and planning, safety and sanitation, and miscellaneous duties related to infection control.

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct the infection control program.
  • Ensure compliance with CDC, OSHA, and local regulations regarding infection control.
  • Develop and maintain infection control precautions and aseptic techniques.
  • Monitor infection control practices and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly summaries of resident/personnel infections and corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing infection control procedures for laundry and environmental services.
  • Participate in Infection Control Committee meetings and assist in evaluating practices.
  • Develop and implement employee health services programs.
  • Provide training and orientation on infection control policies to new employees.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of care plans for residents in isolation.
  • Possession of a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 2 years or more experience preferably in a long-term care facility.
  • Working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and aseptic techniques.
  • Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical procedures and policy manuals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions.
  • APIC Certification in infection control preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.
