About The Position

The Infection Prevention Coordinator is a key member of the Infection Control and Prevention (IPC) Team in providing support to the Manager or Director in preventing healthcare- associated infections (HAIs). In this support role, the IC Coordinator coordinates comprehensive organization-wide infection surveillance, prevention and control, in accordance with current regulatory requirements, including government and accrediting/licensing agencies, and HCA/Alaska Regional Hospital's organizational policies and procedures. You will incorporate into practice effective activities that are specific to the practice setting, the population served and the continuum of care. You will provide knowledge and guidance in infection prevention, control, and epidemiology. You will implement initiatives through performing surveillance, consultation and education regarding prevention and control activities under the direction of the Director Quality Management. You will serve as an educator and educational resource for health care providers, ancillary staff, patients, families, and the general public. You will serve in emergency preparedness and response activities as it relates to infection prevention and control. You will apply epidemiologic principles and statistical methods, including risk stratification and benchmarking, to identify target populations, determine risk factors, design prevention and control strategies, analyze trends, and evaluate processes. You will use a systematic approach to monitor the effectiveness of infection prevention and control program strategies that are consistent with the organization's goals and objectives. You will collaborate with employee occupational health in the development of strategies that address the risk of disease transmission to health care providers and ancillary staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Public Health or other health-related field required.
  • State of Alaska Registered Nurse preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 years' experience in clinical quality improvement, infection control or related positions required.
  • Comfortable and skilled at working with physicians, health care providers and other stakeholders in the organization.
  • Knowledge of PC based computer software, i.e. Word, Excel, Access and/or similar systems preferred.
  • Experience in working with teams in a complex organization.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within two years in the position
  • Membership in APIC (Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology)

Nice To Haves

  • 1-year hands -on Infection Prevention experience preferred
  • 1-year in acute care setting.
