About The Position

The Infection Control Preventionist is responsible for ensuring compliance with infection control guidelines, federal and state regulations. Compliance is achieved through ongoing training of staff, compliance audits, analysis of information including resident and staff infections - treatment of resident infections. Services are provided in accordance with the mission of Guardian Angels.

Requirements

• Current MN RN license in the state of Minnesota; license is unrestricted.
• Current CPR certification is required.
• Must have completed specialized training in infection prevention and control.
• Three plus years prior RN experience required, geriatric experience a plus.
• Prior infection control experience required.
• Prior experience in PointClickCare (PCC) highly desired.
• Ability to work autonomously or collaboratively as situation dictates.
• Ability to work in stressful situations and maintain professional demeanor.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated, ability to prioritize, and effective problem-solving skills.
• Maintains good attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain compliance with the facility's overall infection control program and prevention.
• Assist in implementing the infection control module in PCC, including providing training to current staff/newly hired nurses.
• Develop documentation tools for assessment of initial infection and daily monitoring/documentation of infections until resolution is achieved.
• Determine compliance of facility with antibiotic stewardship measuring using Loeb's and McGeer's criteria.
• Monitor for effective use of transmission-based precautions and quarantine/isolation where indicated.
• Monitor for evidence of cross-contamination between residents and staff.
• Report infectious disease to Minnesota Department of Health as required.
• Coordinate COVID-19 and influenza vaccine clinics.
• Track vaccine status for all residents, including data in PCC Immunization section.
• Assist with contact tracing for COVID-19 and influenza cases.
• Conduct fit-testing of N95 masks for facility staff as indicated.
• Conduct audits of infection control practices, including handwashing, PPE use, compliance with masking, and environmental cleaning activities.
• Perform annual facility assessment of infection control practices.
• Prepare statistical data and reports outcomes at QAPI meetings.
• Attend APIC meetings and bring information back to the leadership team.
• Consult with facility management team, Medical Director, CDC, and health departments as needed.
• Resolve infection control problems and identify new opportunities to improve service and reduce costs.
• Lead industrial hygiene program to control workplace conditions.
• Provide education to staff as it relates to infection control and assessments.
• Participate in Manager on Duty (MOD) rotation.
• Work occasional late night, early evening hours and weekends as needed.
• Follow universal precautions and uphold confidential information as required by policy and HIPAA.

• Perform all other duties as assigned.
