About The Position

The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) works with all IDN partners at all levels to control and prevent infectious disease in our facilities and clinics, reduce the incidence of healthcare-associated infections, and reduce the risk of occupational infectious disease. In collaboration with the local health department, the ICP works to control infectious disease in the community. The ICP provides education and evidence-based information on the principles and practices of infection prevention and control.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or related field
  • Licensed in the state of Florida or license eligible and in good standing
  • Two years' experience in chosen field.
  • Computer literate, Microsoft office suite, customer service oriented with good phone skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or related field.
  • Licensed in the state of Florida or license eligible and in good standing
  • a-IPC or CIC (preferred).
  • Five years' experience in chosen field with two years' experience in infection prevention
  • Computer savvy with knowledge of multiple systems; able to multi-task, work in a high stress environment, manage multiple phone lines, accurately assess and independently problem-solve, interact positively with people at all levels of the organization, assess data and interpret results.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the environment of care to mitigate infection risks to patients, visitors, associates, licensed independent practitioners, contracted services, and vendors. This includes all construction activities, water testing, air testing, cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and other duties as needed.
  • Surveillance of patient disease states: evaluate, implement, modify and monitor. Reporting of all required infectious conditions to the appropriate agencies.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate organizational infection prevention program for evidence-based practices and effectiveness.
  • Maintain and update departmental policies and procedures to reflect latest evidence-based data and practices.
  • Educate and communicate to all IDN partners the principles and practices of infection prevention and control.
  • Remain in compliance with all federal, state, local and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Partner with Associate Wellness to investigate associates exposed to infectious agents.
