About The Position

The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the infection control program within a nursing care facility. This role ensures compliance with CDC, OSHA, and local regulations, while also providing guidance and support to staff on infection control practices. The nurse will monitor infection control procedures, maintain records, and report findings to the administration, contributing to the overall health and safety of residents and staff.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 2 years or more experience in a long-term care facility preferred.
  • Working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and aseptic techniques.
  • Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical procedures and policy manuals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • APIC Certification in infection control preferred but not necessary.
  • Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct the infection control program.
  • Ensure compliance with CDC, OSHA, and local regulations regarding infection control.
  • Develop and maintain infection control precautions and aseptic techniques.
  • Interpret infection control policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Maintain a reference library of infection control materials for staff use.
  • Make written and oral reports to the Administrator regarding the infection control program.
  • Assist departments in evaluating tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Monitor infection control practices and procedures among staff.
  • Conduct rounds to nursing units for case findings and environmental sanitation reviews.
  • Ensure laboratory support for microbiological and serological services is available.
  • Review infectious disease laboratory reports and consult on care plans.
  • Assist in developing guidelines for decontamination and sterilization activities.
  • Prepare monthly summaries of resident and personnel infections and corrective actions taken.
  • Participate in surveys of possible carriers among residents and personnel.
  • Assist in developing infection control procedures for laundry and cleaning services.
  • Report all reportable diseases to health departments.
