About The Position

The purpose of the position is to provide physical and educational care in a childcare environment for students aged 6 weeks to 48 months. Employees in this classification work with children individually, small and/or whole group. Provide basic instruction in abilities and skills developmentally appropriate to infant and toddler age children.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Familiar with and understand the physical and emotional behaviors and challenges of toddlers and infants.
  • Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work.
  • Department of Children and Families (DCF) 40-Hour Childcare Facility Training, as well as Pediatric CPR and First-Aid certifications are required. Applicants without this training must begin training within the first 90 days of employment. The 40-hour training must be completed within 1 year from the start date of the training.
  • Childcare personnel must pass competency exams for the 40 hours of training or receive an educational exemption.
  • Must be able to pass the DCF Background Screening.

Nice To Haves

  • supplemented by minimum two (2) years of experience working with infant or toddlers preferred.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) or Staff Credential are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous, and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Provides all physical care for children ages 6 weeks to 48 months to include feeding, diapering, hygiene, cleanup and safety.
  • Maintains an organized, clean, and safe classroom environment as required by the Department of Children and Families Guidelines for Childcare Facilities.
  • Monitors activities and behavior of infant and toddler age children. Ensure their safety, physically and environmentally, as well as adherence to appropriate conduct and disciplinary controls.
  • Develops, leads, and implements activities using school curriculum that complies with district and state standards.
  • May utilize games, stories, or other constructive activities to enhance learning skills.
  • Communicates daily all relevant information to parents.
  • Maintain developmental profiles for each child which may include developmental milestone checklists.
  • Models and facilitates the development of gross motor activities such as grasping, holding objects, posture, crawling, walking, and running; and fine motor activities such as playing with toys, cutting materials, or coloring.
  • Prepares developmentally appropriate lesson plans that include appropriate activities and learning tools.
  • Conducts student observations and apprise the supervising teacher of potential learning or communication deficiencies; monitors children’s progressive learning skills; documents record of learning activities.
  • Prepares instructional materials; performs support tasks such as copying materials, laminating items, typing correspondence, and filing paperwork and documentation.
  • Coordinates with supervising teacher for classroom learning resources; sets up equipment in classroom for instruction.
  • Prepares classroom bulletin boards, classroom decorations, displays of children’s activities, and other classroom objectives.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of a variety of data, which includes attendance and daily reports, which may require the use of a computer to enter scores and other children’s data.
  • May be assigned monitoring duties, i.e., hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, and bus duty; ensures appropriate student conduct during these periods.
  • Responsible for transporting children to various scheduled activities, i.e., lunch, rest time, restrooms.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
